WEEKLY SPECIAL #1

Last Thursday, January 5th, my older brother (Fr.) Luke and I decided to go hiking on his day off...

Around 10am we aimed the car at Old Rag Mountain in the Shenandoah National Park, and with a bag full of sandwiches, a thermos of soup, warm coats and two hot mugs of coffee we were off! Old Rag is one of my most favorite places to go when I'm home, but I knew this particular trip was gonna be special.

Hiking with close friends, or even alone, can't come close to the experience of actually climbing with your brother... And not just a brother in blood, but a brother in the Faith.

I don't think I'll ever forget the experience of climbing rock faces, jumping over crevices, or shimmying around a edge of a cliff like they were ladders on our backyard playground, puddles on the sidewalk, or the line between "Luke's and Mark's side of the room" when we were growing up... But this time, instead of discussing video games, homework, or TV shows like we were kids, we had a day of carefree fun built around discussions on friendship, our jobs, and the Faith in a way that I'll be bringing things back from to New Jersey in just a few days, and won't be forgetting anytime soon...

"A friend is a friend at all times, and a brother is born for the time of adversity."
- Proverbs 17:17
